The Marathon for WRFG 89.3 is technically over...but that doesn't mean that you can't donate by calling the office at 404 523 3471...here are the results of the recent marathon...

After the three weeks we raised $87,239.82 with 47% on credit cards. This is excellent. We were $12,760.18 short of our $100,000 goal but this is a vast improvement from previous marathons.

You might ask, so why should I care...about WRFG 89.3...well...WRFG is a Pacifica, and NPR affiliated radio station...it means that WRFG is the place where you get news...unaffected by Corporate America...we are commercial free...we are all volunteers..except for 2 paid staff...our news is not edited nor spun...we the producers of our individual shows...pick and choose what we need to report on...what subjects and issues we will deal with...and that means that you will hear about news that you don't hear about in main stream radio or tv...

I know that this is the season...that everytime you turn around someone is asking for your money...I know that we are all adjusting to an economy that is hurting all of us...

But it is so important to keep a Voice that speaks for the people, enabled...

WRFG 89.3 is your station for progressive information..from Labor,Housing,Grady Hospital,Poor Peoples Day, The World Social Forum and every genre of music that you can think of...delivering the news, and how these issues affect you...here in Atlanta...

The Tower of Power is now in full broadcasting capacity, 100,000 watts of power...thanks to you the community...and your contributions and support of WRFG 89.3...but the bills keep coming...and we keep needing help to continue the work...

For the GLBTIQ community it is even more important to keep the voices of WRFG..beaming across Georgia and beyond...WRFG has opened the doors...to the GLBTIQ community..at a crucial time in our history...when the news about our community is limited to the sensational...in the main stream media...Alternative Perspectives is the only full 1 hour radio program in Atlanta devoted exclusively to the news and issues of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersexed, and Queer/Questioning Community...and our Allies....

Alternative Perspectives...the voice of the GLBTIQ community and our Allies...on the air now for 1 year and 6 months delivers the news that affects you....it took 3 1/2 years to get a place for it...on the air...the show has grown...and has 4 production team members...who produce portions of the show...allowing us to give you the listening audience news, and information that educate...from Relationships, Politics and Religion...and a monthly T Talk Tuesday...talk about the Transgender issues...having the dialog...the conversations that build community...thru understanding and educating...it is just 60 minutes...weekly...but we pack it with information..and a little music...in order to keep you informed...about what affects you...and you will ultimately determine how this show moves forward..and if it does...you can make the difference...by listening...by calling us and letting us know you are out there, and by donating...to support the station...and of course you can volunteer...just call 404 523 3471...and say 'I want to Volunteer'....

NEW INCENTIVE...3 DVD SET...UNCUT...SEASON ONE....OF MTV'S  SHOT AT LOVE with TILA TEQUILA...THE COMPLETE UNCENSORED FIRST SEASON...SEALED...WITH SPECIAL FEATURES..INCLUDES NEVER BEFORE SEEN EXTENDED AND DELETED SCENES FOR FOAM PARTY, CAR WASH, STRIP CLUB AND MORE....

WE HAVE 2 SETS...AND YOU CAN HAVE ONE...FOR THE DONATION OF $89.30 TO WRFG 89.3...YOU CAN CALL 404 523 8989 ON TUESDAY 4/22...OR 4/29 between 7 and 8pm...ONLY 2 SETS...ONCE THEY ARE GONE..THAT IS IT...SUPPORT WRFG AND GET THIS 3 DVD SET...WE ONLY HAVE 2 SETS...

And we have taken it one step further...we now have a PODCAST..for the radio show...and you can find that here

http://alternative-perspectives.blogspot.com  plus lots of other info...it is also a blog...so make your comments/suggestions...let me know what you think...and support this effort...by contributing to WRFG 89.3 in the name of the GLBTIQ community...you can also find it on myspace...  http://myspace.com/betlear   ...Tuesday's (4/15)  show is up..too...

I am also looking for news producers...lots going on...and we need more hands on...

News Producers: this is for national and international news...local news is delivered by sovo... each week...

what I need is someone...or someones that can research, select, edit and submit 5 major national and 5 international stories...to be delivered in 5 to 7 minute segment...each week...to be submitted by 10 am on tuesday mornings...for approval...via email...

There will be no need for these individuals to come to the studio...but you are most welcome to do so...if you choose...

ALTERNATIVE PERSPECTIVES AIRS ON TUESDAY NIGHT 7 TO 8PM...ON WRFG 89.3 FM...WE STREAM AT   http://wrfg.org   and you can get it on itunes too..

Affordable LGBT Elder Housing a possibility in Atlanta?

Check out this link for a recent Advocate article about the housing

development in LA that was created in partnership with McCormack, Baron

and Salazar, the developers who presented at the Mills Center Tuesday

evening:

http://www.advocate .com/issue_ story_ektid45291 .asp

I was pretty impressed with their efforts – and in particular to their

commitment to affordable housing for LGBT seniors. The next meeting of

the LGBT Elder group -- now called GSAGA (GLBT Senior Advocacy of GA) -

- is Tuesday 4/22  morning at 9:00 the Helene Mills Center. Anyone and

everyone is welcome to join us as we moved forward.

Thanks all.

Linda Ellis

Peace

See you on the Radio...
